Updates to Setup Microsoft Office 365 Secure Score

We have received a lot of feedback from the Tech Community on how to make Secure Score better and it is greatly appreciated by the team.  When reviewing your feedback and feedback from other organizations, a few requests were coming up regularly.  Some of what we have heard is around the average score that you can compare yours against. In addition, we heard that determining what security controls had changed and influenced the score where hard to track down. Today we are happy to share that we are adding a couple of enhancements to Secure Score to help with this.

Many of you like the idea that you can compare your score to the average score of all Office 365 tenants. However, some have concerns about the relevance of this to your organization. Based on this feedback we have a new average for you to compare against. The average seat size score shows you a score based on organizations that have a similar number of Office 365 active seats. There are seven seat size groups that we put everyone in, 0-5, 6-99, 100-249, 250-999, 1,000-4,999, 5,000-19,999, and 20,000+. For example, if you have 1200 active seats of Office 365 we will show the average score of other tenants that have active seats between 1,000 and 4,999.

compare.png

Coming soon we will be introducing an industry average score, this will show you how your score compares to other organizations that have designated the same industry in Secure Score or the Service Assurance page of the Security and Compliance Center.

Another enhancement we are adding is around making it easier to find how your score changed between two dates and what the impact was. Previously you had to click on the line graph in the Score Analyzer tab to choose your date and then take a screenshot or try to remember what actions were completed as you clicked on another date in the line graph.  To make this comparison easier, we have added a “Compare scores” option to the Score Analyzer tab.

comparedates1.png

Clicking this will allow you to select two dates that you would like to compare the scores on. Upon choosing the dates you will get a list of what controls changed between those dates, and whether the result caused an increase or decrease in the score.

comparedates2.png

Along the lines of making things easier, we know that finding controls in the action list can be a challenge when the list is long. To help find controls faster we are introducing a search field for the action queue. By typing characters in this field, we will filter down the view list to help you navigate to the actions faster.

search.png

And finally the reporting actions have had an overhaul. The reports in Azure have under gone a significant optimization in terms of making them easier to consume and more relevant. Previously when using the Azure classic portal there was a direct report and corresponding Secure Score control for that report. Under the new Azure Portal these reports have been consolidated. This blog post explains how the new mapping works and what the previous reports now map to.

Secure Score has been updated accordingly allowing us to reduce the number of Azure report controls to two (whilst still allowing the same points total). These updated controls now take you to the updated Azure Portal.

If you want to check out all these new features, head over to https://securescore.office.com now. As always thanks for all the feedback and keep it coming!

New in Microsoft Officecom 365 security & compliance – January update

We have several new updates to help you achieve your compliance goals, including complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), along with enhancements to Advanced Threat Protection, eDiscovery and Advanced Data Governance. Read on to learn more!

Accomplish your consistence objectives and get ready for the GDPR

Accomplishing authoritative consistence can be exceptionally testing. We have a few new abilities that will enable you to remain fully informed regarding the directions that issue to your association – and enable you to characterize and execute the correct controls to secure and deal with your information.

Getting ready for the GDPR

In our current reality where the development of innovation and cloud advancement is democratizing information and powering computerized change, the expanded utilization of individual information to convey better client encounters implies new consistence laws –, for example, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – expect you to better administer and manage your data. Microsoft 365 offers a comprehensive set of services to help you with GDPR compliance, and the recently announced Compliance Manager helps you assess and manage your compliance risk. To learn more about how Microsoft 365 can help accelerate your journey to compliance, watch our latest webcast.

Compliance Manager Public Preview is now available

Data protection compliance is a complicated and disjointed process – often requiring deep knowledge of regulatory standards and numerous technology solutions. To help your organization manage its compliance requirements – from a single place – we released the Compliance Manager public preview back in November. Compliance Manager enables you to perform a risk assessment of your organization’s compliance with regulations and standards, such as GDPR, ISO 27001 and ISO 27018. It helps connect data protection solutions with the regulatory requirements that matter to you, as well as enabling you to evaluate Microsoft’s cloud services (such as Office 365) with detailed audit information. To simplify your compliance workflow, Compliance Manager also enables you to assign, track, record compliance-related activities, and produce detailed reports that can help you be more prepared for audit activities. Learn more about Compliance Manager here.*

Office 365 Advanced eDiscovery – Analysis of non-Office 365 data is now available

Many organizations have data that resides outside of Office 365, including legacy file shares, archives or in other cloud services, that may be relevant to an eDiscovery case. Analysis of non-Office 365 data, which was announced back in September, is now available and allows organizations to import the case-specific copy of such data into a specifically assigned Azure container and analyze it using Office 365 Advanced eDiscovery. Having one eDiscovery workflow for both Office 365 and non-Office 365 data provides organizations with the consistency they need to make defensible decisions across the entire data set of a case. Please note that in addition to Advanced eDiscovery licenses, this feature requires the purchase of the eDiscovery Storage plan for all non-Office 365 data imported into the specifically assigned Azure container for analysis by Advanced eDiscovery. The eDiscovery Storage plan comes in increments of 500GB of storage and is priced at $100 per month. Read more here.

Protect against advanced threats
Recent updates to Office 365 threat protection services helps protect your Office 365 users.

Updates to Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection (ATP)

Expansion of ATP to additional Office 365 workloads – As announced back in September, Office 365 ATP has now expanded coverage to SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business and Microsoft Teams, leveraging our signal strength, smart heuristics, machine learning, file detonation and reputation filters. Learn more about this significant enhancement to ATP.
Enhanced reporting – Starting this month, Office 365 ATP will also launch powerful new reporting capabilities. Reports will now be provided in near real-time and will also include a new set of reports:

  • Malware report – provides visibility into the malware families that have attacked a tenant
  • Submissions report – provides a report on potentially malicious emails which have been submitted to Microsoft by end-users
  • Phish report – provides information on all emails that are considered to be phishing emails

Enhanced anti-phish capabilities – ATP is likewise adding a few new capacities to alleviate phish. We as of late conveyed new propelled hostile to parody capacities, interface explosion abilities, brand and client against pantomime capacities and new machine learning models for deciding phish. A considerable lot of these updates are as of now live, and more are propelling this month and into mid 2018. Take in more of how Microsoft mitigates phish from our white paper.

Enhanced Advanced Threat Protection reporting capabilities

Office 365 Threat Intelligence – Threat Tracker

Threat Tracker provides a trend summary of different categories and indicators of threats (e.g. noteworthy, targeted, queries, etc.). The capabilities launching this month will enable you to:

Track changes in the threat landscape for your tenant so that you can identify important changes in trends and targeted attacks (Trending Campaigns)
For custom indicators (like senders or URLs), you can track changes in trends and get alerted when trends change (Saved/trending queries)

Announcing the General Availability of Office Graph reporting APIs

General Availability of Microsoft Graph reporting APIs for retrieving Office 365 product usage data

The usage reports in the Office 365 admin center enable admins to understand their company’s usage across the Office 365 services. However, many of you have existing reporting solutions such as a company reporting application or a web portal in place. To assure that you can monitor your IT services in one unified location, the usage reporting APIs complement the usage reports and allow organizations and independent software vendors to incorporate Office 365 usage data into their existing reporting solutions. Using these APIs, you can retrieve the data available in all of the usage reports, including organization level summaries per service, entity level (user, sites, accounts) usage information for reporting periods of the last 7/30/90/180 days, and daily activity aggregates.

Get started with the new APIs

The new APIs are available now, and any user with global admin, product admin rights (for Exchange, Skype for Business and SharePoint), or a reports reader role can retrieve data through these APIs.

You can leverage the Microsoft Graph documentation for the reporting API and submit feature requests by asking or voting on an idea on UserVoice. Please submit questions by posting them on Stack Overflow and tagging microsoft graph.

With this announcement, we are announcing the deprecation of the following APIs within the Office 365 Reporting Web Service: ConnectionbyClientType, ConnectionbyClientTypeDetail, CsActiveUser, CsAVConferenceTime, CsP2PAVTime, CsConference, CsP2PSession, GroupActivity, MailboxActivity, GroupActivity, MailboxUsage, MailboxUsageDetail, StaleMailbox and StaleMailboxDetail.

We will remove these APIs, as well as any related PowerShell cmdlets, on January 29, 2018.

If you are currently using APIs or any of the related PowerShell cmdlets from the Office 365 Reporting Web Service, please start planning the migration of any subsystems within your organization. Below is a summary of the APIs and cmdlets that will be deprecated.
